Since October 2026, Steven Moens has been Operations Manager at MbarQ, the AI specialist within the Cronos group. He brings more than eighteen years of experience in IT consulting and management, and he considers composure his greatest strength.

His mission: building a framework

‍

MbarQ is growing, and Steven’s job is to make sure that growth runs smoothly. His approach: a clear framework that gives everyone room to move. He puts it in his own words: “I plant a few flags in the ground. Between them, everyone is free to move.”

‍

In practice, those flags are clear agreements on how a project runs, from sale to delivery. Clients know what to expect from MbarQ, whichever team works on their project, and colleagues can step in for each other more easily. His goal for the first year: “I want a new colleague to know straight away how we work here.”

‍

That same framework is what allows him to lead on trust. “I give trust quickly. That works best when everyone knows what is expected of them.”

‍

From classroom to operations

‍

Steven’s career did not follow a master plan. He started out as a teacher and ICT coordinator, then moved into IT as a consultant. “One thing led to another,” he says. “Every time, I saw an opportunity and took it.”

‍

His move into operations grew out of the role he took on in projects. Whenever a project stalled, Steven took the lead. “Take a step back, regain the overview and bring calm to the team.” People noticed, and that is how he grew into operations. In recent years, at a Belgian IT services company, he took on leadership roles in operations, most recently heading a competence center, while making a point of staying close to clients.

Why MbarQ?

‍

During the recruitment process Steven spoke with several team members, and it clicked right away. In his first week, he met a team full of entrepreneurial spirit, passionate about technology and keen to share what they know, for example at the M-café, MbarQ’s internal knowledge sessions held every two weeks.

‍

“Just get in the car and go”

‍

At home, Steven is a father of three. He loves heading out with his wife and kids, preferably on a road trip: the most recent took them to Sweden. “Just get in the car and go.” He travelled that way before the kids came along too, spending a month each in a camper van in Australia and New Zealand.

‍

To stay active, he plays tennis, loves skiing and mountain biking. He also enjoys working with his hands, both indoors and outdoors. The family vegetable garden, which he takes care of with the help of the children, or the woodworking projects he takes on in the house, bring him a lot of joy.
